Automatic update of my web server IP

Sam told about the DynDNS automatic update with www.zoneedit.com. I was using afraid.org dynDNS service, but had to manually update my IP address. With zoneedit.com it's automatic with the ez-ipupdate package in OpenWRT.

Whoo hoo! With great help from Sam, I was able to bring my website coolreddy.com back to life on my own LinkSys router. I posted some new photos as well.

Successful install of OpenWRT

I called Verizon DSL Tech support again today and finally got an experienced technician and he was able to walk me through the steps of bridging the Westell Versalink 327W to act as a dsl modem only. As expected, it didn't take too long. You just have to speak to the right agent. Followed Sam's steps on his post at skganji.blogspot.com and was able to get install OpenWRT successfully. Whoo hooo! And guess what? I was able to even run http server. I went to Fry's and bought an harddrive enclosure for my old 30GB hard drive and connected it to the LinkSys router.

New LinkSys router WRTSL54GS

I received my new WRTSL54GS LinkSys router today and wanted to get started with the install of OpenWRT by following Sam's post on skganji.blogspot.com. First things first, Sam told me that I need to convert my existing Westell 327W modem+router to a "dsl modem only" by bridging it. I called Verizon DSL tech support and spent like 4 hours with no success. At the end of the call, a supervisor told me that I need to contact Premium support or westell directly for this.

Sam is a GENIOUS!!

One of my best friends, Sammy is a real GENIOUS! This week, he enlightened me about the Linksys router with storage link, wherein we can install OpenWRT and run a personal web server. Sam has been running this setup for about 2 months now and it's been working great for him. Basically, what this means is we can run a web server on the LinkSys router itself. Isn't that amazing? The idea looked great to me and I order this LinkSys WRTSL54GS router on amazon for $99.

New James Bond Movie:Casino Royale

First bond was Sean Connery, then Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and now it's Daniel Craig. Daniel doesn't have the polished look of Pierce, but he has that rough look. It's a nice movie.
